Uterine bleeding - Causes, Symptom, Cure, Treatment of Uterine bleeding

Uterine bleeding is a type of abnormal uterine bleeding and is usually caused by changes in hormone levels. It is found in women.

Causes of Uterine bleeding

In many women, a hormone imbalance, such as too much estrogen or not enough progesterone, causes abnormal uterine bleeding. Polyps or fibroids (small and large growths) in the uterus can also cause bleeding as well as cancer of the uterus and infection of the cervix. Sometimes a thyroid problem causes bleeding.

These are just a few of the problems that can cause abnormal uterine bleeding. These problems can occur at any age, but the likely cause of abnormal uterine bleeding depends on your age.

Symptoms of Uterine bleeding

  • Abnormal menstrual periods
  • Infertility
  • Hot flashes
  • Hirsuitism
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Variable menstrual flows and cycles
  • Mood swings

Diagnosis of Uterine bleeding

Pelvic examination will be recommended by health care provider to detect the disorder. Hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy are also used to diagnose the uterine bleeding. Sometimes ultrasound, urine test and blood tests, exam will be preferred by the doctor to exam the area of uterus and ovaries.

Treatment of Uterine bleeding

The treatment depend on symptoms, ages of patient and causes of uterine bleeding. In case of young women patient with first menstrual period, no treatment is used. Patient with anemia, iron supplementation will be recommended by the doctor.

Oral contraceptives and progestogen therapy are also effective to treat uterine bleeding. Surgery treatments such as hysterectomy and endometrial ablation may used in case of severe problem. Hormone supplementation and surgery may be used in case of older women.

Cycling with progesterone will be helpful to control the uterine bleeding. Sometimes, anti-prostaglandins such as naproxen sodium and ibuprofen will be suggested by the doctor to control uterine bleeding. Now Mifepristone is also effective to treat abnormal uterine bleeding.

Hysteroscopy is also good treatment to control the uterine bleeding. In this treatment, hysteroscope device is used by the doctor to examine the uterus.
